Library System – What Is That?
The library system is the association of all libraries of the University:
- the University Library as central library
- all decentralized libraries of the institutes and faculties
- institutes with reference collections via the University Library
As of January 1, 2020, the library system has a total of almost 2.5 million volumes of items, more than 2,100 current subscriptions to printed journals, more than 30,000 electronic journals and more than 130,000 digital items. Of these, the 116 decentralized libraries alone account for more than 800,000 volumes and more than 1,100 current subscriptions to printed journals.
The library system is part of the central institution Information and Communication Center of the University of Stuttgart (IZUS) which, in addition to the libraries and the TIK, also includes the University Archives.
