Registration & Borrowing
is possible for
- students of the University of Stuttgart using their student ID card ECUS
- employees of the University of Stuttgart with an ac-account after acknowledging the University Library's Terms of Use at the SIAM self service. You receive the library card at the circulation desks on producing a German ID or a passport
- employees of the University of Stuttgart without an ac-account with the library card: you receive the card at the circulation desks on production of the registration form, a valid German ID card or a passport or an eAT chip card (electronic residence permit card) and the confirmation of the status as employee of the University of Stuttgart
- Private individuals / external users with the library card: you receive the card at the circulation desks on production of the registration form, a valid German ID card or a passport in connection with an official certificate of residence or an eAT chip card (electronic residence permit card)
- Students of the University of Stuttgart: with the student user ID (generally st…)
- Employees of the University of Stuttgart: with the SIAM user ID (ac…)
- Private individuals / external users: with the user code on the library card (ub…)
For private individuals / external users:
The initial password is your date of birth with the prefix ub, ubDD.MM.YYYY (please mind the dots!).
On the first login you activate your library account by setting a new password. After successful activation please shut the browser completely once.
Loan Periods & Overdue Notices

The University Library charges overdue fines for items whose loan period has expired. They are due after being registered in the charges account and are to be paid in cash at the circulation desks during service hours.

Therefore, in case of a 3rd overdue notice you will be charged €16.50 in total.
Please take note:
- Your account will be blocked as soon as the overdue fines have added up to €6.00.
- If your email address is entered in the library account, the 1st and 2nd overdue reminder will be sent to you as an email. You will receive all additional overdue reminders as letters.
