November 11, 2024

Meeting of the Collection Network of the University of Stuttgart on 08.11.2024

On November 8, 2024, the university's collection network was invited to Prof. Jörg Wagner's collection on gyro technology and inertial navigation. In addition to the historical development of gyro technology and its use in flight and ship navigation, Prof. Wagner also explained the collection's research projects. The collection comprises around 300 objects such as gyro compasses, heading gyros, gyro horizons, P- and I-turning gyros etc.) as well as various types of accelerometers. There are also complete inertial platforms. Other instruments for aircraft guidance such as compasses, altimeters and variometers complete the exhibits. Some of them have been cut open or dismantled as examples, but some are still operational.

The next meeting of the collection network will take place in spring. Interested parties from all faculties and departments of the university are always welcome. Please feel free to contact us.
